Mission
Friends of Bhutan’s Culture is incorporated in the State of Washington as a
non-profit tax-exempt organization. It was established in 2002 to assist in
preserving and promoting Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage for its citizens and
for the world. By partnering with the Royal Government of Bhutan’s Ministry of
Home & Cultural Affairs, Friends of Bhutan’s Culture conducts and supports
activities such as:
• Providing professional conservation
training in such areas as textile and thangka
conservation;

• Developing Bhutan’s cultural institutions,
such as the National Textile Museum, as well
as helping build capacity at the Royal
Government of Bhutan's Department of
Culture, which includes the Department of
Cultural Properties and Department of
Architectural Heritage;

• Providing grants for studies abroad to
assist young Bhutanese in developing
careers in the arts and cultural preservation,
thus building career paths that will work to
preserve Bhutan's rich cultural legacy; and

• Restoring and preserving traditional the
unique Bhutanese forms of art and
architecture.
